Restore Pro
Open Settings in Beside and tap Restore purchases. Use the same Apple Account you bought Pro with. Pro is a one-time purchase, so there is nothing to cancel.
The outer screen on iPhone Duo
The script shows on the outer screen while the camera is running. Unfold the phone, open a script, tap Start prompter and allow camera access if asked. Turn the phone around so the rear cameras face you: the script runs on the small screen beside the lenses, and the big inner screen becomes the camera monitor and the control room, with a live copy of what the outer screen shows.
Folded, or on any other iPhone, the script fills the main screen with a camera preview in a corner instead.
Script markup
# Intro- Starts a section. Sections are chapters in your takes, jump points on the prompter and skips on the Watch.
==words==- Highlights the words in the highlight colour.
**words**- Sets the words heavier, in the emphasis colour.
[pause]- On its own line, holds the scroll for 2 seconds. [pause 4] or [pause 4s] holds for 4.
// note- A note for whoever runs the camera. It shows on the inner screen and stays off the prompter, unless Show notes on prompter is on.
- An empty line
- Starts a new paragraph. A single line break stays in the same one.
The Apple Watch remote
The Watch app comes with Beside. If it isn't on your Watch yet, open the Watch app on your iPhone, find Beside under Available Apps and tap Install. Then open a script in the studio on your iPhone and open Beside on the Watch: play and pause, turn the Digital Crown for speed, skip between sections, record and count down. The remote works while the studio is open on the iPhone, and it is part of Pro. Its status shows in Beside's Settings, under Apple Watch.
Keyboards and page turners
A hardware keyboard or a Bluetooth page turner pedal runs the prompter with these keys:
- Space
- Play or pause
- ↑ and ↓
- Nudge the script back or forward
- ← and →, or Page Up and Page Down
- Previous or next section
- + and -
- Faster or slower
- R
- Start or stop recording
A pedal that sends arrow keys or Page Up and Page Down moves between sections.
Permissions
- Camera: to record your takes and run the outer screen on iPhone Duo.
- Microphone: to record sound, and to hear you when voice follow is on.
- Speech recognition: for voice follow. It runs on the iPhone.
- Photos, add only: asked the first time you save a take to Photos.
Beside's Settings shows the state of each one. To change them, open the Settings app on your iPhone, scroll to Beside and turn each permission on or off. Without the camera, you can still read a script full screen.
